1486 غَيِّرُوا هذا واجْتَنِبوا السَّوَاد
Change this and avoid black

عن جابر رضي الله عنه قال: أُتِيَ بأبي قُحَافَة والد أبي بكر الصديق رضي الله عنهما ، يوم فتح مكة ورأسه ولحيته كَالثَّغَامَةِ بياضًا. فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : «غَيِّرُوا هذا واجْتَنِبوا السَّواد».

Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Abu Quhāfah, father of Abu Bakr As-Siddīq (may Allah be pleased with him), was brought on the day of the Conquest of Makkah with his head and beard as white as Thaghāmah (a white plant). Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Change this and avoid black."

معنى الحديث: أنه أتي بأبي قحافة -والد أبي بكر الصديق- إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يوم فتح مكة ورأسه ولحيته كَالثَّغَامَةِ ، وهو نوع من النبات أبيض، فلما رآه صلى الله عليه وسلم على تلك الحال، قال: "غَيِّرُوا هذا واجْتَنِبوا السَّوَاد" فأمر بتغيير الشَّيب وأن يُجَنَّب السَّواد؛ لأن السَّواد يعني أنه يُعيد الإنسان شابًّا، فكان ذلك مضادة لفطرة الله عز وجل وسنته في خلقه، وأما بقية الأصباغ كالحُمرة والصُفرة أو بالحناء والكَتَم مخلوطين فلا بأس، إذا خرج اللون عن السَّواد، بل بين السَّواد والحُمرة، فهذا لا بأس به، والمنهي عن صبغه به هو السَّواد الخالص، وفي مسلم من حديث أنس رضي الله عنه خضب أبو بكر وعمر رضي الله عنهما بالحناء والكَتَم.
On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, Abu Quhāfah, father of Abu Bakr As-Siddīq, was brought to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his head and beard were as white as an intensely white plant called Thaghāmah. When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he said: “Change this and avoid black.” He ordered that his white hair be dyed with anything other than black, because black makes an old person look younger, and this is a challenge to the natural constitution that Allah gives to man. Red, yellow, and henna mixed with katam-dye are fine to use, so long as black is excluded. If the synthesized dye is something between red and black, it is fine. In a Hadīth by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), Abu Bakr and ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) dyed their hair with henna and katam-dye.

كراهة ترك الشَّيب على حاله، واستحباب تغيير لونه. يحرم تغيير الشَّيب بالسَّواد الخالص؛ لما في ذلك من الخِداع.
