When he went to bed every night, he would join his palms together and blow into them

عن عائشة: أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا أوى إلى فراشه كل ليلة جمع كفيه، ثم نفث فيهما فقرأ فيهما: قل هو الله أحد وقل أعوذ برب الفلق وقل أعوذ برب الناس، ثم يمسح بهما ما استطاع من جسده، يبدأ بهما على رأسه ووجهه وما أقبل من جسده يفعل ذلك ثلاث مرات. وفي رواية: قالت عائشة: فلما اشتكى كان يأمرني أن أفعل ذلك به.

‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: When the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) went to bed every night, he would join his palms together and blow into them and recite the Surahs al-Ikhlās, al-Falaq, and an-Nās, and then he would wipe with his hands over as many parts of his body as he could, starting with his head, face, and the front of his body. He used to do that three times. In another version: When he was ill, he would command me to do this for him.

أخبرت عائشة رضي الله عنها أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا أوى إلى فراشه للنوم وأخذ مضجعه، كل ليلة، جمع كفيه ثم نفث فيهما، والنفث أقل من التفل، وهو إخراج الهواء من الفم مع ريق يسير، فيقرأ فيهما المعوذات، ثم يمسح بكفيه ما استطاع أن يمسح من جسده، يبدأ بالمسح بيديه على رأسه ووجهه ثم ما أقبل من جسده، وكان عليه الصلاة والسلام يكرر ذلك ثلاث مرات، قالت عائشة في رواية أخرى: فلما تِعب صلى الله عليه وسلم آخر حياته كان يأمرني أن أفعل ذلك به. ودل فعله عليه الصلاة والسلام في رقية نفسه عند شكواه وعند نومه على عظيم البركة في الرقية بهما.
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reports in this Hadīth that when the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) went to bed every night, he would join his palms together and blow into them. Blowing is less than spitting. It is to let air out of the mouth, with little saliva. He would recite the refuge-seeking Surahs in them and then pass his hands over as many parts of his body as he could reach. He would begin with his head and face and then the rest of his body - repeating this three times. In another version of the Hadīth, ‘Ā’ishah said: When the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was in his last illness, he would ask me to do this for him. The Prophet's practice of performing ruqyah for himself during his illness and when going to bed points to the great blessing that lies in ruqyah during these two situations.

استحباب قراءة المعوذات قبل النوم، والتعوذ بالله من كل ما يخشى في النوم. جواز القراءة والرقية على الآخرين.
It is recommended to read the refuge-seeking Surahs before going to bed and to seek refuge with Allah from anything feared during sleep. It is permissible to recite and perform ruqyah for others.
