36 أَنْفَجْنَا أَرْنَباً بِمَرِّ الظَّهْرَانِ فَسَعَى الْقَوْمُ فَلَغَبُوا
We chased a rabbit at Marr Azh-Zhahrān. The people ran after it but they got tired.

عن أنس رضي الله عنه قال: «أَنْفَجْنَا أَرْنَباً بِمَرِّ الظَّهْرَانِ، فَسَعَى الْقَوْمُ فَلَغَبُوا، وَأَدْرَكْتُهَا فَأَخَذْتُهَا، فَأَتَيْتُ بِهَا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ، فَذَبَحَهَا وَبَعَثَ إلَى رَسُولِ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بِوَرِكِهَا وَفَخِذَيْهَا فَقَبِلَهُ».

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We chased a rabbit at Marr Azh-Zhahrān. The people ran after it but they got tired. I ran after it and eventually caught it, and brought it to Abu Talhah. He then slaughtered it and sent its hip and two thighs to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he accepted them.

كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأصحابه في سَفَرٍ، ولعلَّهُم قد نزلُوا في ذلك المكَان الذي هُو مَر الظَّهْرَان؛ فَلَقَدْ نَزَلَ في هذا الموْضِع رَسولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بأصحابه في عامِ الْفَتْحِ، فَأَثَارُوا أَرْنَباً فَسَعَى الْقَوْمُ خلفها لِيَأْخُذُوها، قَالَ فَتعبواوا وأدْرَكتُها، وكان أنس بن مالك في ذلك الوقت في ريْعَانِ شَبَابِهِ، فَأَخَذَهَا وذَهَبَ بِها إلى زَوْجِ أُمِّهِ، وهو أبو طلحة رضي الله عنه ، فَذَبَحَهَا وأَهْدَى مِنْهَا إِلى رسولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الفخذين والورك-وهُو مُلْتَقَى الظَّهْرِ مَعَ مَرْبَطِ الرِّجْل-؛ فَقَبِلَها، ولَعَلَّه قَدْ أَكَلَ مِنْهَا.
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions were on a journey. It appears that they rested in that place "Marr Azh-Zhahrān", the same place where they stopped to rest in the Year of the Conquest of Makkah. While they were there, they disturbed a rabbit. The people chased it to seize it, but they got tired and Anas continued till he caught it. At the time, Anas ibn Mālik was at the peak of his youth, so he seized it and took it to his stepfather, Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), who slaughtered it and sent its two thighs and hip as a gift to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), and he accepted it and perhaps ate from it.

جواز أكل الْأَرْنَبِ، وأَنَّها من الطَّيبات، بالإجماع. إهداء الشيء اليسير لكبير القدر؛ إذا علم من حاله الرضا بذلك. قَبُولُ النَّبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لِلْهَدِيةِ؛ قليلةً كانت أو كثيرةً. أَنَّ التَهَادِي وقبول الهدية مِنْ أَخْلاقِ النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وهديه؛ لما فِيهِ مِنَ التَوَادُدِ والتَّوَاصُلِ؛ فَيَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَشِيعَ هَذا بَيْنَ المؤْمِنِين، خُصُوصاً الْأَقَارِب والْجِيرَان.
