Every act of goodness is charity

عن جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنهما قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : «كل معروف صدقة».

Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Every act of goodness is charity.”

صحيح - ( رواه البخاري ). Sahih/Authentic. [Al-Bukhari]

كل معروف يفعله الإنسان صدقة، والصدقة هي ما يعطيه المتصدّق من ماله، وهذا يشمل الصدقة الواجبة والمندوبة، فبيّن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أن فعل المعروف له حكم الصدقة في الأجر والثواب.
Every act of kindness that one does is charity. Charity is that which the donor gives from his money, and this includes both obligatory and recommended charity. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) explained that performing acts of goodness takes the same ruling as charity in terms of reward and recompense.

الحديث يدل على أن الصدقة لا تنحصر فيما أخرجه الإنسان من ماله، بل كل شيء يفعله الإنسان أو يقوله من الخير يكتب له به صدقة. فيه الترغيب في بذل المعروف وكل ما فيه نفع للآخرين.
The Hadīth indicates that charity is not limited to what a person spends out of his money. Yet everything good a person does or says is recorded as charity for him. It encourages us to do what is good and beneficial for others.
