The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution upon every prayer

عن عمرو بن عامر عن أنس بن مالك قال: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يتوضأ عند كل صلاة. قلت: كيف كنتم تصنعون؟ قال: يُجزئُ أحدنا الوضوء ما لم يُحْدِث.

‘Amr ibn ‘Āmir related that Anas ibn Mālik said: "The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution upon every prayer." I asked: "What did you use to do?" He said: "Ablution would remain valid for anyone of us until he broke it."

روى أنس بن مالك رضي الله عنه أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يتوضأ عند كل صلاة مفروضة من الأوقات الخمسة، فهذا هو الغالب من فعله عليه الصلاة والسلام؛ طلبًا للأكمل، وذلك على جهة الاستحباب، لأنه عليه الصلاة والسلام قد صلى كل الصلوات بوضوء واحد لبيان جواز ذلك، كما رواه مسلم (277)، قال عمرو بن عامر لأنس: كيف كنتم تصنعون في الوضوء؟ قال أنس رضي الله عنه: يكفي أحدنا الوضوء ما لم ينقضه، فيكفيه وضوءٌ واحدٌ لصلاتين أو ثلاثة.
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports in this Hadīth that the Prophet (may Allah be pleased with him) used to make ablution for each of the five obligatory prayers. This is what he would often do, seeking what is more perfect - by way of desirability, not obligation. Indeed, it happened that the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) offered all prayers with one ablution, to demonstrate the permissibility of doing so, as related in a Hadīth by Muslim (No. 277). ‘Amr ibn ‘Āmir asked Anas: What did you use to do in ablution? Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: Ablution would be sufficient for one of us unless he invalidated it. So, one ablution would be valid for two or three prayers.

أكثر فعل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم هو الوضوء لكل صلاة؛ طلبًا للأكمل. استحباب الوضوء عند كل صلاة. جواز تأدية أكثر من صلاة بوضوء واحد. بيان فعل الصحابة رضي الله عنهم واكتفائهم بوضوء واحد. أنّ الوضوء مِن غير حدثٍ ليس بواجب.
