1988 كفى بالمرء إثمًا أن يحبس عمن يملك قوته
One will be committing a great sin if he withholds sustenance from those whom he should provide for

عن خَيْثَمَةَ، قال: كنا جلوسًا مع عبد الله بن عمرو، إذ جاءه قَهْرَمَانٌ له فَدَخَلَ، فقال: أَعْطَيْتَ الرَّقِيقَ قُوتَهُمْ؟ قال: لا، قال: فَانْطَلِقْ فَأَعْطِهِمْ، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : «كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ إِثْمًا أَنْ يَحْبِسَ عَمَّنْ يَمْلِكُ قُوتَهُ».

Khaythamah reported: A household manager of ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr came in while we were sitting with him. Ibn ‘Amr said: "Did you give the slaves their sustenance?" He said: 'No.' Upon this ‘Abdullāh said: "Go and give them, for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'One will be committing a great sin if he withholds sustenance from those whom he should provide for.'"

صحيح - ( رواه مسلم ). Sahih/Authentic. [Muslim]

في هذا الحديث يبين عبد الله بن عمرو رضي الله عنهما عظم مسؤولية الإنسان عمن تلزمه نفقتهم، وذلك عندما علم أنَّ الخازن لم يعطِ المماليك نفقاتهم، فذكر حديث النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الذي فيه أنّ تضييع الإنسان وإهماله لمن تحت يده ببخله وإمساكه النفقة عنه من أكبر أسباب الإثم.
In this Hadīth, ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) demonstrates the great responsibility one bears towards those whom he is responsible to provide for. When he knew that his household manager did not provide the slaves with their sustenance, he mentioned the Hadīth of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in which he stated that neglecting and forsaking one’s dependents because of his niggardliness and stinginess is a serious sin.

وجوب النفقة على من استرعاه الله شيئًا ذا روح وكبد رطبة، من زوجة، وأولاد، وأقارب، وأرقَّاء، وحيوان. تحريم منع أقوات هذه الرعية عنهم في غذائهم وطعامهم؛ فإنَّ الله -تعالى- قد ابتلاه واختبره بجعلهم تحت يده، وأجرى رزقهم على يديه. أنه يجب على الإنسان أن يكون نبيهاً فيما حُمل من الواجبات. عناية الشرع بذوي الحقوق، وأن النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كان مدافعاً عنهم ومطالباً لهم، ولهذا توعد من أضاع حقوقهم.
