1944 إذا أكل أحدكم فليأكل بيمينه، وإذا شرب فليشرب بيمينه فإن الشيطان يأكل بشماله، ويشرب بشماله
If anyone of you eats, let him eat with his right hand, and if he drinks, let him drink with his right hand, for indeed the devil eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand

عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «إذا أَكَلَ أحدُكم فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِيَمِينِه، وإذا شَرِب فَلْيَشْرَبْ بِيَمِينِه فإنَّ الشيطان يأكلُ بِشِمَالِه، ويَشْرَب بِشِمَالِه».

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If anyone of you eats, let him eat with his right hand, and if he drinks, let him drink with his right hand, for indeed the devil eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand."

هذا الحديث فيه الأمر بالأكل باليمين، والشرب باليمين؛ والنهي عن الأكل والشرب بالشمال، وفيه بيان سبب الحكم، وهو أن الشيطان يأكل ويشرب بشماله، وهذا يدل على أنَّ الأمر هنا للوجوب، وأن الأكل والشرب بالشمال محرم، لأنه علل ذلك بأنه فعل الشيطان وخُلُقُهُ، والمسلم مأمور بتجنب طريق أهل الفسوق، فضلًا عن الشيطان، ومن تشبَّه بقومٍ فهو منهم.
In this Hadīth, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) instructs the Muslims to eat and drink with their right hands. He forbids them to eat and drink with their left hands because the devil eats and drinks with his left hand. This indicates that the command in the Hadīth denotes obligation. Likewise, it is forbidden to eat and drink with the left hand, it being the practice and manner of the devil. The Muslims are commanded to avoid the ways of the disobedient people, let alone the devil. Anyone who imitates a people is indeed one of them.

وجوب الأكل والشرب باليمين, وأن الأمر في الحديث للوجوب. تحريم الأكل والشرب بالشمال. فيه إشارة إلى أنه ينبغي اجتناب الأفعال التي تشبه أفعال الشيطان. أن للشيطان يدين وأنه يأكل ويشرب. إكرام اليمين؛ لأننا أمرنا أن نأكل بها, ومعلوم أن الأكل غذاء للبدن, والأفعال الكريمة تكون باليد اليمنى. النهي عن التشبه بالكفار؛ لأننا نهينا عن التشبه بالشيطان, والشيطان رأس الكفر. نصح النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- للأمة حين أرشدهم إلى هذا الأمر الذي يخفى عليهم.
