1493 غطُّوا الإناء، وأَوْكِئُوا السِّقَاء، وأغْلِقُوا الأبْوَاب، وأطْفِئُوا السِّراج؛ فإن الشيطان لاَ يَحُلُّ سِقَاء، ولا يفتح بابا، ولا يَكْشِف إناء
Cover the vessels, fasten the waterskins, close the doors, and extinguish the lamps, for, indeed, the devil does not loosen waterskins, nor open doors, nor uncover vessels

عن جابر رضي الله عنه مرفوعًا: «غَطُّوا الإِناء، وأَوْكِئُوا السِّقَاءَ، وأَغْلِقُوا الأبوابَ، وأَطْفِئُوا السِّرَاجَ؛ فإن الشيطان لا يَحُلُّ سِقَاءً، ولا يَفْتَحُ بَابًا، ولا يَكْشِفُ إِناءً، فإن لم يجد أحدكم إلا أن يَعْرُضَ على إِنَائِهِ عُودًا، ويذكر اسم الله، فَلْيَفْعَلْ؛ فإن الفُوَيْسِقَةَ تُضْرِمُ على أهل البيت بَيْتَهُم».

Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Cover the vessels, fasten the waterskins, close the doors, and extinguish the lamps, for, indeed, the devil does not loosen waterskins, nor open doors, nor uncover vessels. If one can find nothing to cover his vessel with other than a stick while mentioning the name of Allah, let him do so, because a mouse may set a house on fire with its inhabitants inside."

أمر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بتغطية الإناء؛ صونًا له من الحشرات، وسائر المؤذيات ولما قد ينزل فيه من الوباء، وأن تغلق الأسقية، وأن تغلق الأبواب لما في ذلك من المصالح الدينية والدنيوية، وحراسة الأنفس والأموال، من أهل العبث والفساد. وأرشد إلى أن تطفأ السرج لما في ذلك من حفظ البيت وأهله لما قد يخشى عليهم من ضرر الاحتراق. والحديث محمول على وقت النوم ليلا، وأخبر أن الشيطان لا يفتح سِقاء مغلقا، ولا بابا ولا يَكشف عن الأواني المغلقة. فإذا لم يمكن تغطية الإناء بما يستوعبه بحيث لا يظهر ما بداخله أو بعضه فلا يدعه مشكوفا، بل يجعل عليه عودا عرضًا، ويسمي الله تعالى عند تغطية الإناء، وإيكاء الأسقية، وإغلاق الأبواب، وذكر أن السِّراج وغيره من المواد المشتعلة إذا تركت على حالها ولم تطفأ قبل النوم؛ فإن الغالب على الفويسقة العَبَث به؛ وقد يكون ذلك سببا لإحراق أهل البيت وقت نومهم.
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that vessels should be covered to safeguard them against insects and other harmful creatures, and against diseases that may dwell therein. Also, he ordered Muslims to fasten waterskins and close doors, given the worldly and religious interests that such an action involves, as well as protecting lives and properties from evil and corrupt people. He also guided Muslims to extinguish lamps to protect houses and its occupants from the harms of fire. The Hadīth is concerned with the time of sleep at night, and it tells that the devil does not open closed waterskins, doors, or vessels. So, if one is unable to cover a vessel with something that can completely cover it in such a way that nothing of its contents appears, he should not leave it uncovered. Rather, he should place a stalk over it in a horizontal position, and mention the name of Allah, the Exalted, while covering the vessel, fastening the waterskins, or closing the doors. The Hadīth also mentions that, in most cases, mice may tamper with lamps and other inflammable objects if they are left without extinguishing them before sleep, and this could be a cause for setting the inhabitants of the house on fire while they are sleeping.

تغطية أوعية الطعام، وسد أفواه أوعية الماء، وتغطيتها أيضاً؛ وذلك صونًا لها من الحشرات والأوساخ، وكل ما يؤذي ويستقذر. يجزئ تغطية بعض الإناء، إذا لم يمكن تغطيته كله. إغلاق أبواب البيوت والغرف؛ احتياطا من الفُسَّاق واللصوص والشياطين، وكل خطر يتوقع. الشيطان يعبث بشؤون الناس حين غفلتهم، ويغري هوام الأرض بالإيذاء؛ لذا يجب الأخذ بالحيطة والحذر من كل شرٍّ متوقع. أن ذكر الله -تعالى- يمنع الشيطان من العَبَث. استحباب التسمية عند وضع الأشياء واستعمالها. نُصح النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لأمته.
