11 يا عباس، يا عم رسول الله، سلوا الله العافية في الدنيا والآخرة
O ‘Abbās, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah, ask Allah for safety in this life and the Hereafter.

عن أبي الفضل العباس بن عبد المطلب رضي الله عنه قال: قلتُ: يا رسول الله عَلِّمْنِي شيئا أسأله الله تعالى ، قال: «سَلُوا اللهَ َالعافية» فمكثتُ أياما،ً ثم جِئْتُ فقلتُ: يا رسول الله علمني شيئا أسأله الله تعالى ، قال لي: «يا عباس، يا عَم رسول الله، سَلُوا الله العافية في الدنيا والآخرة».

Abu al-Fadl ibn al-‘Abbās ibn ‘Abdul-Mattalib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may ask Allah the Almighty for." He replied: "Ask Allah for safety." After some days, I went to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may ask Allah the Almighty for." He said to me: "O ‘Abbās, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah, ask Allah for safety in this life and the Hereafter."

صحيح لغيره - ( رواه الترمذي وأحمد ). Sahih/Authentic by virtue of corroborating evidence. [At-Tirmidhi]

هذا الحديث من جوامع كلمه صلى الله عليه وسلم ، فقد سأله عمه العباس رضي الله عنه أن يعلمه دعاءً، فعلمه دعاءً هو عبارة عن جملة قصيرة، شديدة الإيجاز عميقة الدلالة، استوعبت خير الدنيا والآخرة، وتنكير لفظ (شيئاً) للتعظيم؛ لأنه يريد شيئاً يسيراً قولياً يسأل الله به ليس به كلفة مع عظم الأجر فقال: «سلوا الله العافية»، وعدم تقييد العافية بشيء يجعلها عافية عامة تستلزم السلامة من كل شر دينوي وأخروي.
This is one of the Hadīths that represent the succinct speech of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) The Prophet's uncle Al-‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to teach him a supplication. This supplication came in a very concise statement, yet with profound indication, and encompassed the entire goodness of this life and the Hereafter. Al-‘Abbās's statement indicates he needs a simple verbal supplication that brings him a great reward. So, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Ask Allah for safety.” The use of the word safety, without restricting it to a certain kind of safety, indicates that it is general safety from each and every evil in this life and in the Hereafter.

العافية هي السلامة من كل شر وإذا وفقك الله لها وعافاك من كل شر من شر الأبدان والقلوب والأهواء وغيرها فأنت في خير. الدعاء بالعافية أفضل الدعاء. إرشاد إلى أنه ينبغي لكل أحد سؤال العافية في الدنيا بالسلامة من الأسقام والمحن والآلام، وفي الآخرة بالعفو عن الذنوب وإنالة المطلوب. حرص الصحابة -رضوان الله عليهم- على الاستزادة من العلم والخير.
