The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others

عن عثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «خَيرُكُم من تعلَّمَ القرآنَ وعلَّمَهُ».

‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others.”

"خيركم من تعلم القرآن وعلمه" هذا الخطاب عام للأمة، فخير الناس من جمع بين هذين الوصفين من تعلم القرآن وعَلَّمَ القرآن، تعلمه من غيره وعلمه غيره؛ لأن تعلم القرآن من أشرف العلوم، والتعلم والتعليم يشمل التعلم اللفظي والمعنوي، فمن حفظ القرآن يعني: صار يعلم الناس التلاوة، ويحفظهم إياه فهو داخل في التعليم، وكذلك من تعلم القرآن على هذا الوجه فهو داخل في التعلم، والنوع الثاني: تعليم المعنى يعني: تعليم التفسير أن الإنسان يجلس إلى الناس يعلمهم تفسير كلام الله عز وجل كيف يفسر القرآن، فإذا علم الإنسان غيره كيف يفسر القرآن وأعطاه القواعد في ذلك فهذا من تعليم القرآن.
“The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others”: this is an address to the whole Ummah. Hence, the best of the Muslims are those who combine between these two properties of learning and teaching the Qur’an. Learning the Qur’an is one of the most honorable branches of knowledge. Such learning and teaching include both the words and meaning. Memorizing the Qur’an and teaching people how to recite and memorize the Qur’an is included in teaching. On the other hand, learning such recitation and memorization of the Qur’an is included in the process as well. The second kind of learning and teaching has to do with the meanings of the Qur’an. Hence, teaching the Qur’an also includes teaching Qur’an interpretation, how to do so, as well as informing people about the necessary rules in this regard.

فضل تعلم القرآن الكريم وتجويده، وفضل تعليمه. فضل العمل بما فيه من الأحكام والآداب والأخلاق. ينبغي على العالم بذل العلم بعد تعلمه. تشريف لمن تعلم شيئاً من القرآن، ورفع منزلته بما تعلم.
It shows the excellence of learning the Qur’an and its rules of recitation as well as the excellence of teaching it. It shows the excellence of acting upon the rulings, etiquettes, and manners that it preaches. A scholar should teach others the knowledge
