Yahya al-Māzini (may Allah have mercy upon him) reported: I witnessed ‘Amr ibn Abu Hasan asking ‘Abdullāh ibn Zayd about the Prophet's ablution. So, he ordered for a small container of water to be brought, and performed ablution like that performed by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He poured water from the container over his hands and washed his hands thrice. Then he dipped his hands into the container and rinsed his mouth, sniffed water and blew it out thrice, using three handfuls of water. Then he dipped his hands into the container and washed his face thrice, then dipped his hands into the container again and washed them both up to the elbows twice, then dipped his hands into the container and wiped over his head, wiping from front to back, and vice versa once, then he washed his feet." Another narration states: "He wiped his head starting from the front and reaching back to his nape, then returned them whence he started." Another narration reads: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came to us, so we brought out for him water in a container made of copper.”
