عن ابن مسعود رضي الله عنه مرفوعًا: «إِنَّها سَتَكُون بَعدِي أَثَرَة وأُمُور تُنكِرُونَها!» قالوا: يا رسول الله، فَمَا تَأمُرُنَا؟ قال: «تُؤَدُّون الحَقَّ الذي عَلَيكم، وتَسأَلُون الله الذِي لَكُم». Ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'There will be selfishness and other matters that you will disapprove of after me." They asked: "What do you order us to do then, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Fulfill your duty and ask Allah for your rights."
